Comanche County
Lawn & Garden

Hilary and Brenda are doing an Experiment Station on the patio north of the Courthouse. They took a 8 inch PVC pipe and had 2 inch holes drilled in it. Then they took a Mineral tub and put the PVC pipe vertical filled the PVC and the tub with a mixture of topsoil and potting soil. Two of the tubs have flowers planted and one has vegetables and strawberries.

Soon there will be a fourth with flowers. Some of the courthouse girls got interested in the project and decided we needed one with an added feature of a soaker hose up the middle. Thank you ladies for participating in our experiment.

Sometime when you are close stop by and see how the plants are doing.

Gardening and lawn maintenance and care can be quite challenging in our area of climate extremes.

Comanche County Extension is willing and able to help with plant selection keyed towards our environment plus site and water conservation techniques.

We are extremely fortunate to have K-State specialists available to us as close as the email. With digital camera technology we can get you an answer to your question pretty quickly.
